Another day, another news report about the benefits of mindfulness. The evidence supporting the health benefits of T'ai Chi Chih and similar practices literally grows by the week. And it's no wonder why - TCC practitioners worldwide have experienced these results.
The practice of "mindfulness," another word for meditation, shows in study after medical study to be effective in relieving depression, anxiety, PTSD; protecting again heart disease; assisting in weight loss; and more.
Similarly, T'ai Chi Chih students and teachers find that our moving meditation, which also builds mindfulness, brings such results. As TCC founder Justin Stone often said, "Just do T'ai Chi Chih and let your own experience convince you."
How can we spread our enthusiasm and let more people know about TCC's benefits?
Some people are encouraged by academic literature that provides a medical case for practicing TCC. Others are inspired by newspaper, magazine, TV and web accounts of the health benefits others have gained. Still others learn by word-of-mouth about TCC from friends and families who take classes. The most powerful way to come to understand TCC, however, is by taking a class with an accredited teacher so that the movement of energy can be felt first-hand.
Would you like to learn more? Here, TCC teachers and students describe the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual changes they have experienced, many within a few days or weeks of beginning classes. The effects of the practice are cumulative, so many health improvements take place over time.
Migraine headaches lessen and even disappear. Joint pain ceases. Happiness increases. Peacefulness pervades. Blood pressure comes down and joy goes up. Everyone’s experience is different, but most report positive changes.
Technically speaking, TCC practice allows the essential energy, or Chi, that moves within us all to circulate and balance. That in turn improves our health and sense of well-being.
As TCC student Mildred B. explains:
"'Serenity’ I answered, when asked what I hoped to gain from my first TCC weekend. My hopes were met, and I continue to practice regularly, thankful for serenity and other benefits I’ve noticed. That first weekend I’d just had cortisone injections into my shoulder to alleviate torn rotator cuff pain. My shoulder, neck and back muscles were a knotted mass of misery; painkillers were frequent companions. Today I am pain-free. My shoulder has healed without surgical intervention. While my physiotherapist deserves a good deal of credit for that reversal, I think that TCC has also been an integral part of the healing package. As I go through my daily practice, I feel my posture improve, my muscles relax and my sense of well-being increase.”
